Nelson Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

Guest MINI-REVIEW:  My teen daughter and I heard an 1980’s song yesterday about freeing Nelson Mandela so we were talking about who he was and what he did. I had seen the movie a few years ago and thought it would be interesting for her to watch.

The story is based on historical events. Directed by Clint Eastwood, who tells a good story, doesn’t take sides, and doesn’t get preachy. I give it a thumbs up and worth the $4.00 we paid AT&T on-demand.

Director: Clint Eastwood
Writers:   Anthony Peckham (screenplay),  John Carlin (book)
