Hot rodding is fun, isn’t it? Cruising down an open road, maybe in a T-Bucket or Highboy, looking out the side seeing the suspension in action, and hearing the exhaust note from a performance cam. All this is great! It takes effort, persistence, and some blood, sweat and tears to put a rod together.
Even in a high performance motor, whether 400 or 6000 HP, exact measurements of internal parts are critical. If there’s any deviation from the specs, then you know that you’re going to blow out the bottom end or explode a blower.
So true; the same applies to our lives and they are much more valuable than mechanical things. We need a guide; sort of a shop manual for us. Well, there is one – it’s called God’s Word, the Bible. It is the best seller of all books, but yet the least read. It’s awesome because it tells us about where man has been, what he is now, and what the future holds for him. No other book can do that!
Missed the Mark
From the beginning man has sinned and fallen short; and by doing so, missed the mark. I guess you could say as a hot rodder, we have not lived up to the spec. The Bible says, “No one is righteous – no not one.” Romans 3:10. Have you ever built a car or a motor where you failed to tighten that one fastener? We’re not perfect – have you ever stolen anything, told a lie, or used God’s name in vain? Hey, every hot rodder has thrown a wrench or two in frustration while working on that cool project. The bible says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23. It says that “the wages of sin is death.” Because of our own stubborn self-will we chose to break our fellowship with Him, so we deserve eternity away from Him in hell. The Bible says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:20. So, if we are imperfect and sinners, how can we get to heaven?
There is One who paid the price and took our place; thus you could say, paid our ransom. And His name isn’t Keith Black, Ed Pink, or someone else that you may admire. His name is Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10. The Bible also says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” John 14:6.
Hey guys, if you want to win, there is only one way down the quarter mile; you can’t go left or right, but straight down through the traps. We can’t run that perfect line in and of ourselves, and we can’t get to heaven, or the finish line, by good works or trying to build that perfect hot rod. We need help; we need a Savior! The Bible says,
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, les anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9.
We need to surrender our lives to God through His Son, Jesus Christ, and He will forgive us, cleanse us, and give us perfect peace. Hey, a motor can only run great with a clean carburetor – right? So, you may have finished that sweet hot rod and are driving it every weekend, but there is something even more fulfilling in live than that. You can know for sure that you will have eternal life in heaven, and have great peace and joy while here on Earth. The Bible says, “But as many as receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” John 1:12
So, the big question is – will you give your life to Him and will you ask Jesus into your heart? You can receive Christ right now by faith through prayer. Prayer is talking to God in your own words. Ask Him to forgive your sins and become the Lord of your life. He loves you and knows your heart. I have built several hot rods in my lifetime and designed many cool rods for others, but after giving my life to the real Designer and Builder, my life is not complete and I have a real future, a hope here on Earth, and life everlasting in heaven.
If God has touched your heart through this simple message, and you have given your life to Him, then rejoice, for we are rejoicing with you also. You are now “born again!” The Bible says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17.
Now enjoy your life in Christ and grow. Pick up a Bible and begin by reading the book of John. Attend a Bible-teaching church, fellowship with other believers, and share what Jesus has done for you.
