I know who you really are.

Pru has a secret, which she has no plans to reveal – ever. But after a woman is murdered and all clues point to her, she has no choice but to disclose her true identity. When her revelations help thwart the killer’s plan to frame Pru for the murder, the killer begins stalking her. With each note he sends, he gets closer. The police are stumped. Pru wants to run away. She really, really wants to run, but Ajax has found the woman of his dreams and he’s not letting her go anywhere. He can be patient. In the meantime, he’ll protect her with his life. Pru isn’t feeling very patient, and her friends, Mel and Terri, are definitely not willing to wait until the police uncover who the stalker is. The three friends take matters into their own hands and jump headfirst into the investigation.

Will Pru and her friends uncover her stalker before he turns his violence on Pru?

About the Author

I grew up reading everything I could get my grubby hands on, from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew, to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although on the odd occasion I did manage to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. After surviving the army experience, I went back to school and got my law degree. I jumped ship and joined the hubby in the Netherlands before the graduation ceremony could even begin. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic before returning to the law. But practicing law really wasn’t my thing, so I quit (again!) and went off to Germany to start a B&B. Turns out running a B&B wasn’t my thing either. I polished off that manuscript languishing in the attic before following the husband to Istanbul where I decided to give the whole writer-thing a go. But ten years was too many to stay away from my adopted home. I packed up again and moved to The Hague where, in between tennis matches and failing to save the world, I’m currently working on my next book. I hope I’ll always be working on my next book.

Hide Not Seek is my fifteenth novel.

GUEST POST BY D. E. Haggerty

Naming the male lead after a Greek myth

Naming characters in a novel can be a daunting task. Some names conjure negative associations. Joseph always makes me think of Goebbels. *Shiver* Definitely not what I’m looking for in a funny cozy mystery! And other names seem to describe a character’s personality. A Tiffany always seems to be a blonde bimbo. A bit too cliché if you ask me.

When coming up with the lead male characters in my Not So Reluctant Detective series, I tried to find names that make a reader think of a strong male character who is probably good-looking to boot. But after fourteen novels, I felt like I’d used up all the good names. I did a bit of googling to find the hottest male names but came up with nothing. Then, I was watching a football match (that’s soccer for you North Americans). My husband is a huge Amsterdam Ajax fan. And voila! The name of the male lead character was now Ajax.

I named Ajax in book 2 of the Not So Reluctant Detective series, which meant I was stuck with the name for the male lead in book 3. Between writing the books, I started reading Song of Achilles, a novel about the Greek legend and myth surrounding Achilles. Ajax the Great plays a part in this novel. According to the legends, Ajax is a man of great stature with a colossal frame. He was the strongest of all the Achaeans. He is fearless, strong, and powerful but also intelligent and is mainly known for being a defensive warrior. I image him as a good-looking guy.

As I started writing Hide Not Seek, something weird happened. The character Ajax started to evolve into someone similar to the legend of Ajax the Great. The love interests of my heroines are often alpha males who want to take charge of any and every situation. Ajax became someone totally different. Instead of being overprotective and telling my heroine Pru what to do, he takes on more of a supportive role. He is still fearless and strong, but his intelligence shines through. He knows what Pru needs, and he’s not afraid of his male ego getting bruised.

Initially, I was a little torn about using the name Ajax as a character. My husband thought I’d gone bonkers. But while writing the novel, I fell in love with the man. I’m even thinking of writing a short story to describe his background – something readers only get a hint of in Hide Not Seek.
