Who knew a New Year’s trip to Budapest could be so deadly? The tour must go on – even with a killer in their midst…

Recent divorcee Lana Hansen needs a break. Her luck has run sour for going on a decade, ever since she got fired from her favorite job as an investigative reporter. When her fresh start in Seattle doesn’t work out as planned, Lana ends up unemployed and penniless on Christmas Eve.

Dotty Thompson, her landlord and the owner of Wanderlust Tours, is also in a tight spot after one of her tour guides ends up in the hospital, leaving her a guide short on Christmas Day.

When Dotty offers her a job leading the tour group through Budapest, Hungary, Lana jumps at the chance. It’s the perfect way to ring in the new year and pay her rent!

What starts off as the adventure of a lifetime quickly turns into a nightmare when Carl, her fellow tour guide, is found floating in the Danube River. Was it murder or accidental death? Suspects abound when Lana discovers almost everyone on the tour had a bone to pick with Carl.

But Dotty insists the tour must go on, so Lana finds herself trapped with nine murder suspects. When another guest turns up dead, Lana has to figure out who the killer is before she too ends up floating in the Danube…

Introducing Lana Hansen, tour guide, reluctant amateur sleuth, and star of the Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mystery Series. Join Lana as she leads tourists and readers to fascinating cities around the globe on intriguing adventures that, unfortunately for Lana, often turn deadly.

Feel-good stories about friendship, travel, and celebrating new experiences. Coming soon: Books 2 and 3 in the Travel Can Be Murder Cozy Mystery Series!

Jennifer S. Alderson’s DEATH ON THE DANUBE, is a fast-paced travel mystery with beautiful sites and scenery, plus a cast of very interesting characters, whom you will come to know quite well before the book is done.
But first I must explain why Lana Hansen, an ex-investigative reporter and newly divorced, jobless, thirty-something gal is leading the second week of a posh Winter tour in Budapest, Hungary.
It seems that this particular Wanderlust Tour, owned and operated by Lana’s friend and landlady, Dottie Thompson, is doomed for misadventure. In the first week, one of the guides and two tourists were injured in a crash and had to leave the tour. Dottie was able to pick up a new couple to fill out the second week – at a deeply discounted price – but she is desperate to replace the other guide whose responsibility was to personally assist the passengers and make them so happy, they would all leave 5 star reviews.
Carl, the off-putting remaining guide, saw to the logistics of the tour (hotels, buses, local guides etc.), and would never do as a personal guide to people who paid top dollar.
That’s how Lana finds herself in snowy, freezing Hungary in the week before New Year’s Day.
I was amazed at how quickly she “took” to the job (the author surely must have be a tour guide by the details she gives)!  Lana welcomes the “Fabulous Five” an elderly group of fun-loving traveling ladies, who are all wealthy widows. The sweet, elderly couple, still in love after 60 years, is a stark contrast to the new (discount-priced) middle-aged married couple who bickers and fights the whole trip. And then there are the TWO women desperately in love with Carl, both willing to fight (and do it dirty) for him.
Amidst the fun sightseeing, dining, shopping, and casino and spa going, someone dies. And then someone else.  Lana never agreed to take on murder, but her investigative skills kick in, and in the end, the guilty are nabbed.
The author mentions two upcoming books in the series, as Lana again guides tours with Wanderlust. One hopes it will be smoother sailing… or maybe one doesn’t. I recommend this book if you’ve ever toured the country or the world, or if you hope to one day.
