A bargain deal on a safari + one dead body = An adventure no one could plan for.
Naomi and her estranged sister are off on a trip of a lifetime—an African safari, a bucket list trip for Naomi on which she got a last-minute deal. Naomi thinks traveling with her sister will be the worst part of her African safari until she finds one of their fellow travelers, the unlikable Dr. Higgins, dead. She gets more adventure than she bargained for when she starts investigating what she thinks is murder but the luxury lodge says was a tragic accident. She only has a few vacation days, and a few game drives, to find the killer.
About A. R. Kennedy
A. R. Kennedy lives in Long Beach, New York, with her two pups. She works hard to put food on the floor for them. As her favorite T-shirt says, ‘I work so my dog can have a better life’. She’s an avid traveler. But don’t worry. While she’s away, her parents dote on their grand-puppies even more than she does. Her writing is a combination of her love of travel, animals, and the journey we all take to find ourselves.

MY REVIEW – 4 1/2 STARS
I like all things Africa, so I was excited to read SLEUTH ON SAFARI, A.R. Kennedy’s first in The Travelers Cozy Mystery series. It’s set in a luxury Safari Lodge with plenty of game around – Africa’s “Big Five,” plus zebras, hippos, kudus, snakes and hyenas.
Oh, did I say Hyenas? Watch out, these ugly laughing critters play a not-so-funny part in the mystery.
Naomi – our uber-curious and unconventional protagonist and her college aged and oh so by-the-book younger sister get a super deal on a Safari vacation. Charlotte is not so thrilled, but she goes along with her adventurous sister after a lot of arm twisting.
The two sisters try to analyze their eight fellow travelers as they board the tiny plane to their safari destination. (You’ve done that too, right?) There are two older couples, a threesome, a single college professor type in their group. Their guessing game was fun, but they got a few wrong. Very wrong.
Pre-breakfast and afternoon game drives make up the bulk of the mystery. Game sightings thrill and cameras click as personalities clash and mesh. But on the second morning, one of the travelers doesn’t arrive at the truck. When Naomi runs to call him, she finds a gruesome sight. The man is covered in blood, his throat is ripped out, and there are hyena tracks in the blood.
A mega scream, and everyone comes running.
Naomi, a budding sleuth, believes the hyena mayhem covers the evidence of a murder. Of course, no one believes her, especially her sister.
The rest of this lush mystery follows the varied and often bumbling and humorous murder investigation by Naomi, as she looks for clues and gets into lots of dangerous trouble along the way. Everyone is a suspect, including the strange Lodge personal. Then, in a Poirot-like denouement, our girl identifies the killer, the connection to the victim, and the “ah-ha!” reason.
I loved the book and this fun feisty protagonist. I hope to follow her on many more travel adventures.
Spoiler alert: If you haven’t read or seen Agatha Christie’s “Murder on The Orient Express,” don’t read chapter 42 titled “Afternoon.” It has nothing to do with THIS plot, but will reveal an important feature of the other one.
