Life is looking up for magazine crafts editor Anastasia Pollack. Newly engaged, she and photojournalist fiancé Zack Barnes are on a winter cruise with her family, compliments of a Christmas gift from her half-brother-in-law. Son Alex’s girlfriend and her father have also joined them. Shortly after boarding the ship, Anastasia is approached by a man with an unusual interest in her engagement ring. When she tells Zack of her encounter, he suggests the man might be a jewel thief scouting for his next mark. But before Anastasia can point the man out to Zack, the would-be thief approaches him, revealing his true motivation. Long-buried secrets now threaten the well-being of everyone Anastasia holds dear. And that’s before the first dead body turns up.

Craft projects included.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lois Winston’s ninth Anastasia Pollak Crafting Mystery, A Sew Deadly Cruise. Winston has a gift for writing complicated cozy mysteries while entertaining and educating us about her crafts and the insider workings of, this time, a cruise ship.

In this book, Anastasia and her two sons, her fiancé, and her fun-loving mother, along with their friend and his teenage daughter receive a winter cruise to the Bahamas as a Christmas gift from Anastasia’s brother in law.

Almost from the first day at sea Anastasia and Zack, learn that his father, suspiciously released from prison way earlier than he was supposed to, and with a vendetta against his son, was also aboard the ship.  There was a brief altercation between the two men, then he seemingly disappears. No one with his name was on the passenger list.

Shortly after that, a boorish man at their table fell overboard. (Accident or intended?)  Anastasia keeps the teens corralled on the ship via call-ins and text messages, and uneasily watches her lively mother enjoy the casino and the company of several gentlemen. (Lotharios?)

A few more men go missing, but the Capitan doesn’t seem eager to investigate. Of course, Anastasia and Zach take up the slack. And it is their work that reveals who is responsible for what was quickly becoming a murder ship!

Along the way, Anastasia teaches a few craft classes (directions for each craft project are found at the back of the book.)
