When a friend’s husband dies while Jessica Fletcher is in town visiting, Jessica’s vacation turns into a murder investigation in this latest entry in the long-running USA Today bestselling series.
After traveling to Bethesda for a mystery writers’ conference, Jessica Fletcher decides she’s earned a vacation and takes a train to Columbia, South Carolina, to visit her old college friend Dolores, who has recently married her third husband, Willis Nickens, a wealthy and cutthroat businessman. They’ve moved into an opulent historic home with plenty of space for guests, and Jessica is ready for a week of shopping, gossiping, and relaxing at the grand estate.
But the morning after she arrives, Jessica discovers Willis facedown in the koi pond, and despite what the police think, she’s sure foul play is involved. She hadn’t known Willis long, but it’s clear to her that he didn’t concern himself with making friends. The question isn’t if her friend’s husband was murdered but by whom.

Reading Terrie Farley Moran’s (and Jessica Fletcher’s) new book, “Murder She Wrote, Killing in a Koi Pond” was like sitting in front of the TV with a bowl of ice cream and binge watching the old TV series. Moran captures the “famous” writer’s persona, dialogue and techniques perfectly.
In this book, Jessica is in South Carolina visiting newly married Delores Nickens, her close friend and old college schoolmate. The two barely have a chance to start reminiscing about the “good old days” when Jessica finds the body of her friend’s husband, half into the new Koi pond, a suspicious rock very near his head.
(Seriously, why would anyone invite Jessica Fletcher to their home? She always finds a body!)
There are other people who are guests and live-ins at the palatial Manning Hall, and there are sticky problems with each of them. This makes terrific fodder for Jessica’s sleuthing when Delores becomes a “person of interest” in the investigation.
Jessica’s keen eye for details, her quick mind, and both the staff of Manning Hall and some old friends at Cabot Cove, help her to identify the killer. There were three possibilities, as far as I could see, but it took Jessica Fletcher, mystery writer par excellence, to nail the correct one.
A very enjoyable cozy mystery with familiar old friends.
